Amit Shah's Firm Stand on CAA

In December of the previous year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the commitment of the BJP-led central government to implement the CAA, emphasizing that no obstacles would hinder its execution. Shah's remarks were particularly directed at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has vehemently opposed the CAA.

During a significant rally at Kolkata's Esplanade, Shah not only criticized Banerjee's stance on the CAA but also addressed various other issues including infiltration, corruption, political violence, and appeasement. He urged the people of Bengal to bring about a change in governance, emphasizing the need to elect the BJP in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

CAA: Background and Opposition

Since its passage in both Houses of Parliament and subsequent approval by the President in 2019, the CAA has been met with widespread protests across India and staunch opposition from various political factions. Critics have raised concerns about the Act's implications on citizenship and its alleged discriminatory nature.

Preparations and Digital Process

According to reports from news agency PTI, the Centre has finalized the rules pertaining to the CAA and is poised to notify them well in advance of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. An official source revealed that an online portal for CAA applications has been established, streamlining the entire process and facilitating digital submissions. Applicants will be required to declare the year of their entry into India without travel documents, with no additional documentation needed.
