New Delhi: An inquiry has been launched by Pauri Garhwal police after posters were found calling for male escort jobs in the Kotdwar city in Uttarakhand.

The posters that offered gigolo jobs were pasted on walls at Kotdwar bus station, railway station, almost all major squares and even in the office premises of the circle officer of Kotdwar police and the city police station.

"Playboy Jobs! Boys can earn Rs 5,000 - 10,000 daily by joining the escort company," read the poster which also displayed a WhatsApp number.

A police officer, privy to the matter, told TOI, "Police were informed about the posters by residents. We dialed the mobile number mentioned on the poster but it was switched off. Subsequently, it was put on surveillance. The last location traced through the number was near the Delhi-Haryana border."

"No complaint has so far been received in the matter. However, police have taken suo-motu cognisance of the matter and launched a probe. The identity of the accused would soon be ascertained. Those involved in the incident will be arrested," he said.
