Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has reacted to the controversy surrounding hijab in colleges in Karnataka. He has expressed displeasure over the recent incidents in Karnataka. Earlier, Kamal Haasan, Richa Chadha had criticized the protesters for harassing the girls. Now, Javed Akhtar has condemned the incident by tweeting.
Javed Akhtar tweeted – “I have never been in favor of Hijab or Burqa. I still stand by that but at the same time I have nothing but deep contempt for these mobs of hooligans who are trying to intimidate a small group of girls and that too unsuccessfully. Is this their idea of “MANLINESS” . What a pity”
Before Javed Akhtar, many Bollywood celebs have condemned Hijab Row. These include the names of Swara Bhaskar, Richa Chadha, Kamal Haasan, Onir. Swara Bhaskar had called this incident shameful in her tweet. She called the mob surrounding hijab-wearing girl a wolf. Richa Chadha appealed to her boys to give proper education.
