Vice President Urges Swift Implementation of Uniform Civil Code, A Step Towards National Unity

Uniform Civil Code: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar stated on Tuesday that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) should be put into effect as the Constitution’s creators intended. Dhankhar further stated that Article 44 of the Constitution clearly indicates that the state shall work to ensure that the Uniform Civil Code is available to its residents across the nation while speaking at the 25th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. “The founding fathers had this idea in mind. There can be no justification for obstruction or further delay now that the moment has come for its execution,” he said.

Vice President’s Call for Uniform Civil Code Implementation

According to him, it is the responsibility of the state to use these principles when drafting legislation because the Constitution’s drafters were certain that they were vital to the nation’s government. In light of this assumption, I am astounded by certain people’s responses whenever the UCC is attempted to be implemented. Political involvement cannot come at the expense of the country and nationalism, he insisted. The UCC aims to substitute a single common law for everyone, regardless of religion, caste, creed, sexual orientation, or gender, in place of individual laws based on beliefs, practises, and traditions. There is a good chance that a common code will encompass personal laws as well as laws pertaining to inheritance, adoption, and succession.

Vice President’s Call for Unity and UCC Implementation

”The underlying sublimity of this has to be appreciated and understood as this will bind the nation more effectively. If there is further delay in UCC implementation, it will be corrosive to our values,” the Vice President said in his speech. While politicians are free to practise whatever brand of politics they like, there must be a “common denominator within the frame and respect for the nation and nationalism,” Dhankhar threw in. The nation has reached a stage when the effects of its progress are being felt on a worldwide scale, and Dhankhar stated that it is “everyone’s prime duty to be proud of being Indians along with our historical achievements.” One-sixth of the world’s population resides in India, and the nation’s human capital is having an impact on the world, he remarked at the convocation. ”Economic nationalism” should not be compromised for financial gains, he advised the students who will soon be contributing to the economy.

Vice President’s Call for Responsible Citizenship

According to him, the country has seen zero-tolerance policy, openness, and accountability in governance over the past nine years. People are aware that the law has a broad reach, but he said that some people who have had positions of authority or constitutional authority turn to the streets rather than seek justice when accused of wrongdoing. He asked individuals to improve their capacity for discernment, recognise right from wrong, and stop keeping silent because doing so can be “very costly for the nation.” During the convocation, all 2011 graduates earned their degrees. They include 298 PhD students, 659 M.Tech and M.Design students, and 816 B.Tech and B.Design students. At the IITG campus, the Vice President and his wife Sudesh Dhankhar planted a Brahmakamal sapling and a Rudraksha.
