Vijay Mallya contempt case: Supreme Court to hear last on January 18, said – have waited a lot

The Supreme Court made an important announcement on Tuesday in the contempt case against Vijay Mallya. The Supreme Court said that the case in which fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya has been convicted will be heard on January 18, 2022.

The Supreme Court said that we have waited enough in this matter, now we cannot wait any longer than this. This case of contempt against Vijay Mallya will have to be settled at some level. Now this process should end.

The top court requested senior advocate Jaideep Gupta to assist in the matter as an amicus curiae. At the same time, the court said that Vijay Mallya is free to pursue the representation. If he is not present, the lawyer can argue on his behalf.

The court said that we cannot wait for Vijay Mallya forever. The court had directed Mallya to appear, but he did not appear. Earlier, the court had also dismissed Mallya petition for review of the 2017 verdict in this case.

In this case, Mallya was convicted of contempt for sending 40 million US dollars to children in violation of judicial orders. At the same time, on January 18, the Center had told the court that Mallya extradition was getting delayed due to some legal issues.

Vijay Mallya has been living in UK since March 2016. He is one of the accused in the over Rs 9,000 crore bank loan fraud case involving his defunct Kingfisher Airlines. Currently out on bail in an extradition case.
