Vinai Kumar Saxena Takes Charge of Delhi as Lieutenant Governor

Vinai Kumar Saxena today took the oath of office as the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Delhi at a ceremony at the Raj Niwas in the national capital. The Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Vipin Sanghi, administered the oath.

The ceremony was attended by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, his Cabinet colleagues, Union Minister Giriraj Kishore, Delhi MLA, and MPs and senior officials of the Delhi government.

In a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Mat 23rd, 2022, Mr. Vinai Kumar Saxena was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi by the President. Saxena (64) replaces Shri. Anil Baijal, who had resigned from the post some time back.

Saxena was Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, an organization under the Ministry of Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprise, before assuming the office of Lt. Governor.

Saxena is a Kanpur University alumnus and holds a pilot license.

He was appointed as a member of the national committee to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence by the Union government in March 2021.

He was nominated as a member of the Padma Awards selection panel of 2021 in November 2022.

He has also served as a member of the “Research Council” of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology.

President Ram Nath Kovind, in his capacity as Visitor of the University, nominated Saxena as a “Member of University Court” of Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Mr. Vinai Saxena was nominated every year from 2016 to 2020 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister as one of the members of ‘The Empowered Committee’ to evaluate “Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration.”
