In a noteable development in the tragic suicide case of Bengaluru-based techie Atul Subhash, police have arrested his estranged wife Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha, and her brother Anurag. The arrests were made on Sunday in connection with charges of abetment of suicide.
According to the police, Nikita Singhania was apprehended in Gurugram, Haryana, while her mother and brother were taken into custody in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. All three were produced in court and have been sent to judicial custody.
Shocking Allegations Against the Accused
The accused have been charged with demanding an exorbitant sum of ₹3 crore to withdraw cases filed against Atul and an additional ₹30 lakh for granting him visitation rights to meet his young son. These demands were among the many grievances listed by Atul in his 24-page suicide note, in which he also accused his wife’s family of relentless harassment and extortion.
Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar, had filed a police complaint against Nikita, her family members, and a relative named Sushil Singhania, alleging their direct involvement in driving Atul to take such a drastic step.
Police Collaboration Across States
The Bengaluru police, in coordination with law enforcement agencies in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, managed to locate and arrest the accused. The arrests come after weeks of investigation and mounting public pressure, fueled by the viral hashtag #JusticeForAtulSubhash.
