Will continue to fight for truth: Navjot Singh Sidhu after resigning as Punjab Congress chief

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who stepped down as Punjab Congress president on Tuesday, took to Twitter to post a video, explaining his decision. 

“I will keep fighting the fight for truth till my last breath,” the Congress leader said, a day after turning in his papers to party chief Sonia Gandhi, throwing the state unit into chaos. 

In the video, Navjot Singh Sidhu said, “I am fighting for the welfare of Punjab and I never compromised on this. I never fight for personal agenda.”

“I can’t misguide the high command. I’m ready for any sacrifice,” he said. In a reference to new appointments in the Punjab government, Sidhu further added, “I fought for issues concerning Punjab for a long time… There was a system of tainted leaders, officers, now you cannot repeat the same system again… I will stand by my principles.”

Sidhu, who was appoints State Congress President in July this year, had taken to Twitter to make the announcement. He had also posted a picture of the letter he had written to Party Chief Sonia Gandhi. The letter read, “The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee [PPCC]. Will continue to serve the Congress.”

Just hours after Sidhu submitted resignation,many state party leaders also stepped down from the posts. While Razia Sultana resigned as Punjab cabinet minister, days after taking oath as a legislator, three other Punjab Congress leaders resigned from their party posts. Congress leader Yoginder Dhingra resigned as general secretary of the state party unit, Gulzar Inder Chahal resigned as treasurer of Punjab Congress and Gautam Seth also tendered his resignation as the general secretary (in-charge training) of the state Congress
