With ex PM Imran Khan Getting 14 Years Imprisonment, Here’s Where Pakistan Stands in the Most Corrupt Country Worldwide List

The world's most corrupt nation as revealed by Transparency International's most recent Corruption Perception Index, which also shows India's current rating.

Most Corrupt Country in the World: A Pakistani court convicted Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, to 14 years in prison in connection with the Toshakhana case. The two also received a fine of Rs 787 million Pakistani Rupees and a ten-year ban from holding public office. Now in meantime Transparency International, a group that disseminates information on the state of corruption worldwide, released its 180-country corruption report on Tuesday. The paper claims that in comparison to 2022, corruption in India has increased in 2023.

Understanding the Corruption Perception Index

According to the organization’s report, India ranked 85th in the Corruption Perception Index in 2022, but has since dropped to 93rd place in 2023. The nation ranked first has the least level of corruption out of 180, and the nation ranked 180th has the most corruption.

When it comes to neighbouring countries, Bhutan ranks 26th out of all of South Asia and has the lowest level of corruption. China is ranked 76th on this ranking, and like other countries, corruption has gotten worse in 2023 compared to 2022. Sri Lanka, another of India’s neighbours, ranks 115th on the list, indicating that corruption levels there are higher than those in India.

South Asian Neighbors’ Corruption Rankings

In the ranking, Nepal comes in at number 108, Pakistan at number 133, Bangladesh at number 149, and Afghanistan at number 162. With the exception of Bhutan and China, the majority of India’s neighbours are therefore more corrupt than India.

Denmark tops the list of nations with the least amount of corruption. Finland comes in second, followed by New Zealand in third, Norway in fourth, and Singapore in fifth. The only Asian nation to rank among the top 10 on this list is Singapore. Conversely, the only Asian countries included in the top 20 are Japan and Hong Kong, excluding Singapore.

Somalia, which is ranked 180th on the list, has the greatest level of corruption in the world. Other than Somalia, North Korea, Venezuela, Syria, South Sudan, and Yemen are some of the world’s most corrupt nations.
