US President Donald Trump to revoke the special Status of Hong Kong.

Donald Trump directed to end Hong Kong’s special status with the U.S. and signed legislation that would sanction Chinese officials responsible for cracking down on political dissent in the city.

“No special privileges, no special economic treatment and no export of sensitive technologies,” said the president, who first announced in May that his administration would begin paring back the territory’s special status of Hong Kong.

“The US attempt to obstruct the implementation of the national security law for Hong Kong will never succeed,” the statement said. China responded.

“Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and no foreign country has the right to interfere,” the ministry said China’s Foreign Minister.

During news conference held in the White House Rose Garden, Trump also said “Their freedom has been taken away; their rights have been taken away. And with it goes Hong Kong, in my opinion, because it will no longer be able to compete with free markets. A lot of people will be leaving Hong Kong,”

The law had been passed with bipartisan support in Congress earlier this month.

The White House later released the full text of the executive order, outlining the penalties and suspensions, as well as newly reallocated admissions within the US refugee ceiling “to residents of Hong Kong based on humanitarian concerns”.

Later, he was at the center of spotlight when his wife, Novel Singhal Lavasa was given notices from the income tax department for alleged tax evasion.

Tamil Nadu government looking forward to convert Jayalalithaa’s house into official CM residence

The Tamil Nadu government is actively considering converting a major portion of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s residence, ‘Veda Nilyam’, into the official residence of CM instead of a memorial. Madras High Court has been notified about the same.

The information came when Madras court was hearing a plea filed by the Poes Garden Residents Association that challenged acquisition of Jayalalitha’s house by the Tamil Nadu government. The petition had sought the government to stop converting Poes Garden into a memorial as that would attract a lot of limelight, making the local residents of area refrain from a peaceful living.

Meanwhile, Advocate General Vijay Narayan in his plea to Justice Anand Venkatesh said: “It will become a tourist place for millions of Tamil. People visiting the state would visit the place more like people visiting the White House and the Lincoln Home when they visit the US or Shakespeare’s birthplace when they visit the UK.”

He also informed the Judge that along with the immovable property, all the other movable property will also be arranged in the similar fashion as it was during the time when Jayalalithaa lived.

The Judge then observed the plea made by advocate general Vijay Narayn and found out that houses of political leaders and influential people have been converted into memorials in the past.

However, the petitioners also accused the state government of acquiring the property illegally without consulting the residents.

After considering the submission made by both the sides, the judge culimintaed that rejecting the idea of a memorial for the peaceful living cannot be accepted. He dismissed the plea, calling the argument premature and apprehensive.

The resident of Jayalalithaa covers a wide are of 24,000 sq ft and was a place with high security. Not only localites, but even VVIPs couldn’t barge in until the permission from due authorities.

Joe Root to find the lost English rhythm

The first test match loss for England was the shock for many of us, with the return of their regular captain Joe Root the hosts looks much stronger. As of now, West Indies are top of England and the series win is the next target for the travelers.

32 Years Manchester tale for the West Indies

The two teams are all set to play the second test in Manchester. The last time West Indies won in Manchester was 32 years ago in a turning pitch, but this time the conditions are different the pitch will be useful for the fast bowlers. Last time 32 years ago, England produced a turning pitch to over-shadow the world-class Caribbean bowling attack which included Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose, and Malcolm Marshall. West Indies won the test match by an innings and 156 runs with Malcolm Marshall taking seven wickets in the second innings.

Windies might go with the same team

The current visitor side comprises another fearless fast bowling attack, with Jason Holder and Shannon Gabriel in-charge of their bowling attack. Gabriel took 9 wicket haul in the last test match while Captain Holder took 7 wickets which included a 6 wicket haul in the first innings. The Windies may go with the same side but they might consider an extra off-spinner, addition of Rahkeem Cornwall in the playing 11 is one option, if the Old Trafford surface has typical bounce and rough. Holder confirmed the opener John Campbell is good to go for the this test match after being struck on the toe in the first test match.

The hosts are all set to make three changes

The English side is all set to make 3 changes with Captain Root coming back for Joe Denly, Stuart Broad for James Anderson, and left-arm pacer Sam Curran for Mark Wood. In 7 weeks Joe Root’s team has to play 6 test matches including the Pakistan series. So, at the same time, the rotation of players is also important for the hosts. West Indies are leading the series by 1-0 if hosts want to win the series they have to win this test match.

Goa announces three-day lockdown from Friday to control coronavirus spread

Goa Chief Minsiter Pramod Sawant has introduced new lockdown restictions in the state to curb Covid-19 spread. The lockdown will start Thursday at 8 pm and will be applicable until Monday 6 am.

In addition to this, a fresh daily night curfew from 8 pm to 6 pm, starting Wednesday until August 10, will also come in force in the state.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Sawant expressed his concern over the rapid increase in Covid-19 tally in the state. He further added that monsoon season will require added precautions, making it necessary to enforce hygiene amid the heavy rainfall.

“We are in mid-July, when the state receives the highest rainfall. On Tuesday, the state reported 170 Covid-19 positive cases, which is the highest single-day spike so far. The figure could rise in the coming days. There is a lack of seriousness to contain the viral outbreak. The need of the hour is to create more awareness among the public and stricter compliance with all standard operating procedures (SOPs). A section of the public has started holding parties while flouting all social distancing norms with impunity,” he was quoted as saying.

“The public only understands the language of the law. The state has reported over 1,000 active Covid-19 positive cases and 18 deaths,” Sawant further added.

The Chief Minister also asked citizens to take the night curfew seriously, adding that strict actions would be taken against the violators. However, people associated with essential services or facing any medical emergencies would be allowed movement during the curfew hours, he added.

“The ‘Janata Curfew’ will last from 8 pm to 6 am daily, with exceptions for essential services or those working night shifts in industries or medical emergencies. The curfew will be in place till August 10… violators will be imprisoned,” Sawant said.

Meanwhile, Goa saw the biggest spike in covid-19 cases on Tuesday with 170 fresh cases. The state has so far recorded 18 deaths with half of them reported in the past three days.

On K Kamaraj’s 117th birth anniversary, check out some unknown facts about the Kingmaker

Today marks the 117th birth anniversary of one of the greatest post-independence leaders and pre-independence freedom fighters of India, Kumarswamy Kamaraj, fondly known as the Kingmaker. A renowned politician, activist and statesman, Kamaraj started his political career during India’s struggle of independence.

Starting as merely a campaigner, he went on to become a legislator in the Madras Presidency, and was later appointed the Chief Minister of Madras. On the occasion of the Kingmaker’s birth-anniversary, here are some unknown facts about him:

After the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Kamaraj decided to devote his life to India’s fight for freedom from British rule.

He was one of the very few leaders who raised their voices against injustice towards lower caste citizens in India. In 1922, he joined Vaikom Satyagraha that called out atrocities of the higher caste Hindus against Harijans.

During India’s struggle for freedom, Kamaraj was jailed multiple times — in 1930, he was jailed for his active participation in the salt Satyagraha movement and in 1937, he was jailed for protesting against the arrest of Mahatma Gandhi.

He was appointed the Chief Minister of Madras Province in 1954. After his appointment as the Chief Minister of Madras(now Tamilnadu), the education rate in the state rose from 7 percent to 37 percent. He introduced new irrigation schemes, built new dams and canals for which the state is known today.

Major industries such as Neyveli Lignite Corporation, BHEL, Manali Oil Refinery, Hindustan raw photo film factory, a railway coach factory and a few other industries such as paper, sugar, and chemicals were introduced during Kamaraj’s government.

In 1963, he resigned from the post of Chief Minister under the Kamaraj Plan which suggested that senior Congress leader should leave the ministerial posts.

He was elected the president of Indian National Congress after his resignation from the post of Cheif Minsiter in 1963.

Kamaraj had a chance to become the Prime Minister of India but instead suggested Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi’s name for the post. His reason of refusal was — he did not know either Hindi or English and believed that Prime Minister of India should be fluent in at least one of these languages.

On October 2, 1975, Gandhi Jayanti, Kamaraj felt uneasy after waking from a nap. His house help, Vairavan, informed his physician. Before the physician could make it to Kamaraj’s house, he had died.

Rajasthan: Sachin Pilot removed as deputy Chief Minister.

Sachin Pilot says “I am still the congressman”. Pilot want to reach Gandhi, stressing that chatter of him joining the BJP is an exercise “to malign him with Gandhi”.

Mr Pilot’s comment came as his party began a new round of punitive activities against him for “anti party activities”.

“Some leaders in Rajasthan trying to fuel speculation that I am joining BJP but I am not doing so. I have worked very hard to bring Congress back in govt in Rajasthan,” Pilot told the PTI.

Congress previously has sent him a notice to explain why he should not be disqualified as the member of the legislative Assembly.

Now yesterday Sachin Pilot was removed both as Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan as well as from the post of president of the Congress brand in the state.

After being dismissed by the Congress from every office he held in Rajasthan , Sachin Pilot tweeted on Tuesday, “The truth can be harassed but not defeated.” A few hours later, he expressed, again on Twitter, his thanks to his supporters.

“I am not joining the BJP,” Mr Pilot said this morning when he torched the crisis now subsuming the party.

The threat level to the Congress government in Rajasthan has gone down, said sources, with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot claiming the support of 105 MLAs, four more than he needs for a majority.

Google, Facebook and Microsoft join Lawsuit against student visa new rule.

On Monday more than dozen American technology companies including Google Facebook and Microsoft join a lawsuit.

The lawsuit is filed by Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of technology.

Lawsuit is against Immigration and Custom Enforcement new rule that restrict international student from staying in US unless they attend at least one in-person course.

On July 7, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement had said it would not allow foreign students to remain in the country for the autumn semester if all their university classes are moved online because of the coronavirus crisis. The rule applies to all F-1 and M-1 visa holders. While F-1 visa holders pursue academic courses, M-1 students pursue “vocational coursework”.

The companies have argued that the ban will “inflict significant harm” on their businesses by reducing their customer base . “America’s future competitiveness depends on attracting and retaining talented international students,” the companies added. “Individuals who come here as international students are also essential to educating the next generation of inventors.”

“Finally, they become valuable employees and customers of US businesses whether they remain in the United States or return to their home countries,” it said.
