1988 batch IPS officer Balaji Srivastava will be the new Police Commissioner of Delhi from June 30

1988 batch IPS officer Balaji Srivastava will be the new Police Commissioner of Delhi. The current police commissioner SN Srivastava will retire on Wednesday, June 30. After this, Balaji Srivastava will take over the charge of Delhi Commissioner.

The current police commissioner SN Srivastava was appointed in February 2020 during the Delhi riots. He is retiring on Wednesday. SN Srivastava played an important role in controlling the riots and maintaining peace in the capital.

This is the second time in a row that the look after charge has been given for the post of Delhi Police Commissioner. Earlier, SN Srivastava was also given additional charge and about a month before retirement got the charge of commissioner officially. This time too Balaji Srivastava has got the additional charge of Police Commissioner.

Balaji Srivastava, originally a resident of Maliyabagh, Lucknow, has received higher education from Delhi itself. He graduated in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi in 1985. MA in Economics from Delhi School of Economics in 1987 and LLB in 2003. In Delhi Police, he was DCP in East District. In 2015, he remained as Additional DG, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Balaji served the Cabinet Secretariat for nine years and handled sensitive tasks.
