Anurag Dhanda has shared a video defending the performance of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, outlining key achievements in governance, welfare, and law enforcement.
Anurag Dhanda: Debt Reduction and Economic Indicators
Dhanda stated that when the AAP government took charge, Punjab’s debt-to-GDP ratio stood at around 48 percent. He claimed that the government has managed to reduce this figure, indicating improved financial management, while continuing to invest in welfare schemes. He added that such progress cannot happen overnight but reflects consistent efforts.
DON'T MISS
Welfare Schemes and Public Benefits
Highlighting major schemes, Dhanda said nearly 90 percent of households in Punjab are receiving free electricity. He also pointed to free bus travel for women, subsidised healthcare benefits, and financial assistance schemes, including ₹1,000 support for women and ₹1,500 for SC women. He said these initiatives are aimed at improving living standards and ensuring social security.
Employment and Education Growth
The AAP leader claimed that around 70,000 jobs have been provided under the current government. He also highlighted growth in higher education, stating that the number of college students has increased from around 2.4 lakh to nearly 5 lakh, reflecting improved access to education.
Anti-Drug Campaign and Law Enforcement
On the issue of drugs, Dhanda said the government has intensified its crackdown, with nearly 90,000 arrests made so far. He emphasised that drug eradication is a multi-layered process and cannot be achieved instantly. According to him, earlier drug inflow routes from across the border have been curtailed with measures such as drone surveillance in coordination with border forces.
Changing Drug Routes and Continued Vigilance
He noted that as enforcement increased, drug trafficking routes have shifted to other regions such as Delhi and Gujarat, indicating the need for continuous vigilance. He maintained that the government is committed to making Punjab drug-free through sustained action and rehabilitation efforts.
Infrastructure and Youth Engagement
Dhanda also highlighted the construction of around 13,000 stadiums aimed at engaging youth in sports and positive activities. He said this initiative is part of a broader strategy to prevent drug abuse and promote a healthy lifestyle.
Migration Trends and Development Claims
Referring to passport data, Dhanda claimed that there has been a decline of around 30 percent in passport applications, suggesting reduced migration trends due to better opportunities within the state.
The statements come as part of AAP’s ongoing effort to showcase its governance model in Punjab, with leaders emphasising welfare delivery, economic management, and social reforms as key achievements.
