According to the Aam Aadmi Party, the Chief Minister urged the Central Government to consider granting Punjab special state status and sought a 90:10 funding ratio for centrally sponsored schemes. The state government argued that such support would help Punjab address development challenges and accelerate infrastructure and welfare initiatives.

Mann also called for a special border state package for Punjab

During the meeting, Mann also called for a special border state package for Punjab, citing the state’s strategic location along the international border and the unique challenges associated with border management, security, and development.

In addition, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for advanced technology and manufacturing investments in the state. He reportedly urged the Centre to establish a National Integrated Semiconductor Mega Cluster in Mohali, stating that such a project could position Punjab as a major hub for semiconductor manufacturing, electronics production, research, and innovation.

Officials believe that large-scale investments in high-technology industries could generate employment opportunities, attract domestic and international investors, and contribute significantly to the state’s economic growth. The proposal aligns with broader efforts to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem and reduce dependence on imports in critical technology sectors.

The Punjab government stated that the demands raised at the NITI Aayog meeting were aimed at ensuring balanced regional development, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and creating long-term opportunities for the people of the state.
