Despite British attempts to sow discord, Hakim Ajmal Khan stood as a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. Notably, he served not only as the President of the Indian National Congress but also as the President of the Hindu Mahasabha, showcasing his leadership across communities.
Fighting for Independence
Hakim Ajmal Khan actively participated in the freedom struggle, leading the Khilafat Movement and joining the Non-Cooperation Movement. He fiercely opposed the British attempt to revoke recognition of Indian physicians and united against this injustice. Later, he renounced his British titles, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the cause.
A Healing Hand and a Guiding Light
Beyond his political pursuits, Hakim Ajmal Khan was a celebrated physician, earning the title "Hakim of the Nation." He even defied a queen's preference for foreign fabrics, advocating for Khadi, symbolising self-reliance. As a lecturer at Aligarh Muslim University and the founding member of Jamia Millia Islamia, he dedicated himself to education.

While Pakistan remembers Hakim Ajmal Khan with clinics bearing his name and the title "Savior of India," his legacy transcends borders. The Tibetan Hospital in Delhi, rooted in his initiatives, continues to serve as a testament to his vision.
