Car Care Tips: Having trouble getting your car to start? If you know how to jump-start a car, the annoyance of a dead battery can be greatly minimised. Surprisingly, jump-starting a car battery is a simple process. In this article, we will tell you how to do it to make your life a bit easier if you find yourself in this situation.
How to jumpstart a car?
All you need to jump-start your automobile if your battery dies is another car and the cords to connect them. Keeping a couple of cables in your car is the best option if you ever need a jump start or someone else does. When you’re prepared to use both of these, here’s how you jump start your car:
- Find the batteries by opening the hoods of both cars.
Get rid of all rust and terminal covers.
The positive (red) jumper cable should be connected to the dead battery’s positive terminal. Make sure the terminal is securely gripped by both of the metal clamps.
Put the positive (red) jumper cable’s other end on the positive (red) terminal of the helper battery.
The attached battery’s negative (black) terminal should be connected to the black jumper cable. - The negative (black) jumper cable’s other end should be connected to a metal portion of the disabled car’s engine that is visible, away from the battery and the fuel-injection/carburettor system.
- Turn on the engine of the supporting car.
- Start the engine of the disabled car.
- Give the two cars roughly three minutes to operate together.
- Close the hoods, unhook the connections in the opposite sequence that they were attached to, and keep the jump-started car going.
- To give the battery time to fully charge, run the engine of the car that was jump-started for around thirty minutes.
