Delhi Metro has announced a special metro line that will use only 3-coach trains  a first in India. This new line will run between Lajpat Nagar and Saket G Block, covering a total distance of 8 km. It is a part of the Phase-IV expansion and aims to improve travel for people going short distances. Delhi Metro hopes this move will make commuting faster and reduce pressure on longer routes.

Why Delhi Metro is Choosing Smaller Trains for Short Routes

Unlike regular metro trains with 4 to 8 coaches, this corridor will have only 3-coach trains.Delhi Metro says these smaller trains are perfect for short and busy urban routes. They will cost less, run more frequently, and still carry a large number of passengers. With this, Delhi Metro wants to make city travel more efficient and less time-consuming.

All 8 Stations on the New Delhi Metro Route

The new Delhi Metro route will have 8 stations: Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, GK-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket Court, Pushpa Vihar, and Saket G Block. These stations will serve major residential and commercial areas in South Delhi. The line will also connect with existing Pink, Violet, and Golden lines, improving interchange options.Delhi Metro believes this will help reduce road traffic and encourage more people to switch to metro travel.

Construction Work is Already Underway, Launch by 2028

The foundation stone for this corridor was laid by Prime Minister Modi in March 2024.Since then, construction has officially started, and work is moving forward steadily.Delhi Metro is targeting the year 2028 for the public launch of this corridor.Once completed, it will be the second-shortest line in Delhi Metro’s network but a big step toward better last-mile connectivity.
