Iran Protest: United States President Donald Trump has warned Iran that USA would intervene if the country’s security forces shoot and kill peaceful protestors.
Trump said on his Truth social platform that the United States would not shy to come to the rescue of peaceful protestors if they are shot or killed.
The threat of Trump came after the deaths of many people as the biggest protests in Iran turned violent across multiple cities and provinces.
According to media reports, at least 6 civilians have been killed while a volunteer member of Iran’s security forces lost life during protests.
What is Causing Iran Protest?
The violence between security forces and protestors mark a considerable escalation that has spread across the country. Protestors are agitated over the Iranian government’s handling of rapidly rising prices and a sharp currency slide. Inflation has climbed to 42.5 percent in December as per official figures. At present, one United States dollar is equal to 42,125 Iranian Rial.
For years, the economy of Iran has come under fire due to massive sanctions by USA and other Western countries.
In 2022, Iran saw nationwide protests after the death of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for allegedly violating the strict dress code of Iran for women.
Many now believe that the showdown between Iran and the United States could very well go down the lines as the Iraq and USA conflict a decade ago.
USA and Iraq
United States and Iraq entered into an armed conflict during the regime of Saddam Hussein. The then US President George W Bush claimed that the war was against terrorist activities and atrocities against Kuwait. Interestingly, many believe that the US invaded Iraq to gain hold of its oil reserves.
