Liver Damage: Every day, millions of people across the globe become victims of liver-related health conditions. Unlike a stroke or heart attack, liver damage creeps in quietly. There are usually no dramatic symptoms or early warning alarms just a slow and steady decline of the organ until the damage becomes irreversible. However, many people are still confused when it comes to the primary culprit behind liver damage – sugar or industrial seed oils.
Liver Damage And Industrial Seed Oils
For years, industrial seed oils such as rice bran oil, lupin oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, canola oil, soybean oil, corn oil, grapeseed oil and rice bran oil have been popular. These oils are stable, neutral-tasting and inexpensive that makes them the first choice for many homes, restaurants, dhabas, hotels and food manufacturers. In fact, these oils are used in almost everything, from chocolates to packaged snacks, condiments to nut milks, from plant-based cooking to baked goods, sauces, dressings, restaurant and fast-food cooking.

Why Avoid Industrial Seed Oils?
Industrial seed oils (more harmful than sugar) are usually avoided by health-conscious people because they have abnormally high content of omega-6 fatty acids that could result in inflammation. Moreover, they result in oxidation and instability when used for high-heat cooking. Also, these oils could be exposed to chemicals due to ultra-processing.
Immediate Dangers Of Industrial Seed Oils
Industrial seed oils could result in oxidative stress, insulin resistance, impaired detoxification, hormonal disruption, chronic inflammation, cellular damage or increased risk of fatty liver disease.
How to Protect Your Liver?
- Avoid oils such as corn, sunflower, safflower, soybean and canola oil, especially in fried or processed foods.
- Choose ghee, butter, cold-pressed olive oil or coconut oil as they are more stable at high temperatures.
- Prioritize whole and unprocessed foods and say goodbye to fast foods, packaged snacks and ready-to-made packaged foods as they are loaded with hidden seed oils.
- Increase the intake of omega-3 rich foods such as flaxseeds, fatty fish and walnuts to counteract the inflammatory effects of excess omega-6.
