Navratri a nine-day long festival is dedicated to nine incarnations of Devi Durga and it starts from the first day of Ashwin month of  Hindu Calendar. It falls in the month of September or October according to the Gregorian calendar.This year Navratri began on October 7 and will continue till October 15. On the Ashtami Tithi, Mahagauri is worshiped as Goddess Durga.

Mother Mahagauri 2021: Importance

Out of the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga, the eighth day of Mahagauri Navratri is dedicated to the eighth incarnation of Durga. Mahagauri’s meaning is extremely bright and clean skin. Goddess Mahagauri is wearing white clothes, with four hands. She rides on a white bull. To kill monsters and to win on evil, Goddess Durga appeared in different forms. In the part of Markandeya Purana, she is given the title as Ambika.

– The devotees should quickly bathe and wear clean clothes.

– Havan is organized in many houses and temples.

– The statue of Goddess should be kept near Kalash.

– Offer the supari for Goddess.

– The gudhal flower should be offered to the goddess.

– Ghee lamp is burned in front of the idol.

– Durga Saptashati path is heard.

– Mother Mahagauri’s mantras are chanted.

– Aarti is done and the goddess is offered bhog in the evening.
