Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday announced the construction of 13,400 km of link roads across the state, with an investment of Rs 2,436.49 crore. The initiative aims to improve commuting and enhance the smooth transportation of goods and services, especially in rural areas.
Chairing a high-level meeting, Mann emphasized the importance of these roads in driving economic growth and facilitating residents in villages. He noted that many roads have remained neglected for over six years and need urgent attention.
Categorization and Prioritization of Roads
To ensure efficient execution, the roads will be categorized into three groups: “top priority,” “priority,” and “needy.” This classification will help allocate resources effectively and ensure that the most critical roads receive immediate attention.
Ensuring Judicious Use of Funds
Mann instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Punjab State Agricultural Mandi Board to ensure that the Rs 2,436.49 crore allocated for the project is spent judiciously. He stressed the need for transparency in the utilization of funds, ensuring that every penny is used responsibly to improve the state’s infrastructure.
Economic Boost for Rural Areas
The project is expected to significantly boost economic growth in Punjab by enhancing rural connectivity. Improved link roads will facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, goods, and services, offering better access to markets and reducing travel times for people living in remote areas.
