Tamil Nadu Food poisoning kills three children at a childcare centre; Eleven more hospitalised

Tamil Nadu: On Wednesday night, three kids at a childcare centre in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, died from what was likely food poisoning. There are currently three more children in the intensive care unit (ICU) out of the eleven that have been admitted to the government hospital for treatment.

Children from the childcare facility Vivekananda Sevalayam started vomiting, so their parents took them to a private hospital. They were sent to Tiruppur government hospital as their situation started to deteriorate.

The children ate rasam rice on Wednesday night, according to sources. 14 kids started vomiting a few hours later, and some of them fainted. They were only transferred from a private hospital to the neighbourhood government hospital, where three of them ultimately passed away.

Vivekananda Sevalayam is a recognised home, according to Tiruppur collecter Vineeth, and authorities are looking into the situation.“Three are in ICU. Police, Child Protection Unit and Revenue officials have initiated an investigation”, he said. Further details are awaited as the investigation is underway on the case.
