Assembly Elections 2026: Biggest SIR Voter Deletions In Tamil Nadu, Loudest Outrage In Bengal! What Explains The Divide?

Assembly Elections 2026: The strong reaction in West Bengal can be understood in the context of elections in the state. Elections in the state are often full of incidents related to minority appeasement, belittling of the majority community, mass-scale violence, open threats, rapes and a state-police coalition to suppress opposition parties.

Assembly Elections 2026: The electoral processes of India are usually scrutinized closely, especially when changes affect large number of “illegal” voters. Recently, discussions around Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls have highlighted the selective political outrage among different states and political parties.

One striking point is the fact that the state of Tamil Nadu has reportedly seen one of the highest voter count reductions during the SIR of state’s electoral rolls. Yet, the loudest political reactions have emerged from West Bengal and not from Tamil Nadu. This contrast surely raises some important and valid questions about public perception, regional political dynamics and the often-fake narratives constructed around electoral processes.

Assembly Elections 2026-Why Tamil Nadu is Silent?

In Tamil Nadu, the SIR exercise has resulted in a significant reduction in the count of registered voters. This is primarily due to factors like better data matching, stricter verification processes or urban migration.

Interestingly, the major political parties of the state have not launched aggressive campaigns or large-scale protests against the electoral roll revisions. This could possibly indicate either confidence in the overall process or a strategic decision to avoid escalating the matter without any concrete evidence of wrongdoing.

West Bengal: A Different Political Response

In contrast, the state of “illegal aliens favoured by the ruling party for public appeasement” has been a witness to significant political uproar over the same issue. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has complained of wrongful deletions, voter list manipulations and potential disenfranchisement.

The strong reaction in West Bengal can be understood in the context of elections in the state. Elections in the state are often full of incidents related to minority appeasement, belittling of the majority community, mass-scale violence, open threats, rapes and a state-police coalition to suppress opposition parties.

For years, the Mamata Banerjee government has been accused of converting illegal Bangladeshis into legal Indians so she could get easy votes to win state elections. The ethics of Trinamool Congress (TMC) are questionable to the highest degree. Therefore, it does make sense for them to shout and bark when things don’t go their way and when their illegitimate voter base is called illegitimate on their face, and hence the selective political outrage.
