MK Stalin: Congress is presently in talks with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to receive 27 assembly seats and a berth in the Upper House of the Parliament.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and KC Venugopal, the general secretary of Indian National Congress (INC), had a meeting to discuss seat-sharing ahead of the upcoming polls.
DON'T MISS
The two leaders remarked that there were no discussions on growing demands among some leaders of the INC that sharing of power must happen if the DMK-led alliance wins again in the polls scheduled in April-May 2026.
DMK-INC Feud
Several leaders in the Indian National Congress expressed their desire of a significant share in power in the state of Tamil Nadu. Congress members also expressed that their seat allocation share must be doubled. These ‘unjustified’ demands by the INC have been straining the ties between the two allies for long. Interestingly, members from both DMK and INC have been sparring on public stages.
The Congress contested on 25 assembly seats in 2021 when it was a part of the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) led by the DMK Party.
MK Stalin-Venugopal Meeting Expectations
On Sunday night, the general secretary of Indian National Congress had a meeting with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu met at Stalin’s residence. Venugopal handed over a sealed envelope to the TMK High Command. It is expected that the envelope probably contained the seat expectancy desires of the Indian National Congress for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
TS Singh Deo, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, was also present. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, the half-sister of Stalin, and Stalin held the negotiations with the Indian National Congress.
A Congress leader remarked that the INC would hold one more meeting with the DMK before an agreement about the sharing of seats is agreed upon.
