Prashant Kishor: Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) Chief Prashant Kishor, a vocal critic of the Congress party, has created ripples within the political circles after his meeting with senior Congress party leader Priyanka Gandhi.
The meeting between Priyanka and Prashant lasted around two hours but both sides downplayed its significance, describing it as a routine interaction.
The Jan Suraaj Party chief parted ways with Congress three years ago. Interestingly, Kishor had commented that the vote theft campaign of Rahul Gandhi and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls were not relevant issues in the state of Bihar.
Political Dialogue Cannot Be Ruled Out
The post-election meeting between the two suggests that communication channels are still somehow open. It has been reported that the meeting was focused on Bihar politics, future political prospects and the opposition’s strategy.
Bihar Elections: JSP & Congress Performance
In 2025 Bihar elections, Congress won just six of the 61 seats it contested, down from 19 in 2020. In contrast, the Jan Suraaj Party of Prashant Kishor lost the deposits of 236 (or 99.16%) of its total 238 candidates.
Why did Prashant Kishor Parted Ways With Congress?
In 2021, Prashant Kishor was in regular touch with the Gandhi siblings to revive the Congress. It is believed that Kishor was willing to join the Congress but talks fall down after Kishor was denied a free hand for leadership revamp.
Citing that Congress required leadership and structural reforms and not individuals, Kishor refused to accept a limited offer.
At that time, Kishor also met NCP–SP chief Sharad Pawar amid buzz about a national front of all opposition parties against the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party ahead of the 2024 elections.
