Thalapathy Vijay: The Indian National Congress (INC) led by Rahul Gandhi has decided to back actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
TVK requires 118 seats to form the state government. The party won 108 seats in a historic first for the Jana Nayagan actor but are short of 10 seats in the 234-member house. Vijay requested Congress and other parties; the Congress has confirmed that it would be extending support to the to-be sworn Tamil Nadu CM.
Congress Extends Support To TVK
Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil announced that the party’s Political Affairs Committee has authorized the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee to support TVK in government formation. Congress claimed that the Tamil Nadu election results are for a secular government and the INC is committed not to have the Bharatiya Janata Party or its proxies run the southern state government.
Congress is expecting 2 ministerial positions in the cabinet of Thalapathy Vijay. Interestingly, Congress has placed a precondition that Vijay’s party should not align with the NDA or it allies such as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

DMK Blasts Congress
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai called the Congress party a “backstabber”.
Annadurai said the 5 seats that the INC won was only because of the DMK else they would have drawn a blank. The DMK spokesperson further commented that the outfit of Vijay is close to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Annadurai added that Vijay has never spoken anything against Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the BJP.
Annadurai added that this Congress development would create doubts in the minds of Tejashwi Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav and others in the INDIA alliance. Annadurai said it is for the INC to decide when asked if the Congress and TVK tie-up would spell the end of the Congress and DMK alliance.
