1. During the 2011 World Cup final, the coin toss had to be repeated. In the first attempt, match referee Jeff Crowe couldn’t hear Kumar Sangakkara’s call. The coin initially landed as heads, and Sangakkara believed he had called correctly to choose to bat first. However, MS Dhoni claimed he heard Sangakkara call ‘tails.’ Consequently, Crowe decided to redo the coin toss.
2. Only Clive Lloyd of West Indies and Ricky Ponting of Australia have managed to secure the trophy twice as captains. Lloyd achieved this feat in 1975 and 1979, while the legendary Australian batsman achieved it in 2003 and 2007.
3. The 2015 World Cup stood out with two separate opening ceremonies, distinguishing it from previous seasons. These ceremonies occurred at North Hagley Park in Christchurch, New Zealand, and Melbourne, Australia.
4. Sri Lankan cricketer Nuwan Kulasekara achieved the unique feat of bowling the final ball of the 2011 World Cup and then opening the 2015 World Cup by delivering its first ball!
5. During the 1999 World Cup match between South Africa and India, Hansie Cronje and Allan Donald were found using earphones to communicate with their coach. Sourav Ganguly, upon noticing this, raised the issue with the umpires, who subsequently intervened and had the earphones withdrawn, putting an end to the unfair practice.
