Ahmed Shehzad: Former Pakistani opener Ahmed Shehzad has commented in a televised show hosted by eminent TV host Tabish Hashmi that the wives of Pakistani players used to influence selection of team.

Shehzad said team selections used to be made by wives of Pakistani players on the basis that this player wish me, speaks nicely to me or because he is a good boy.

In another development, Ahmed Shehzad alleged that Pakistani opener Saim Ayub got selected only because some high-profile individuals in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) like him a lot. Shehzad alleged that Hassan Nawaz didn’t get many chances while Saim got chances after chances despite no good performances.

Ahmed Shehzad: Saim Ayub’s Record For Pakistan

The 23-year-old Ayub has played 17 one-day internationals, 8 tests and 67 T20 matches for his country till now. The left-hander has managed only 1298 runs in T20 matches with a meagre batting average of 21.27. Surprisingly, Saim Ayub scored 7 ducks for Pakistan in a calendar year in T20 matches.

Social Media Reactions

A social media user wrote, “Ahmed Shehzad should either present evidence or stop making vague claims. Saying “wives influenced selection” without naming facts or people just spreads gossip and hurts the credibility of Pakistan cricket.”

Another commented, “KL Rahul got similar privilege in ICT, owing to his good relations with Kohli and Anushka Sharma. He was getting picked constantly, despite failing in ICC knockouts again and again. This blocked the chances of talents like Sanju Samson for almost 6-7 years.”

A user stated, “I’m sure Shehzad himself got selected on this basis. I don’t doubt him. That’s just how trash our system is. Despite being a country of 250 million focused on cricket, we’re still outplayed by countries with much smaller populations.” Another wrote, “Indian cricket shows can only dream of providing such entertainment.”
