Asia Cup 2023: A sigh of relief for every Indian cricket fan and the team itself as Shreyas Isyer has joined the camp back. The right-handed middle-order batsman did not travel with the team to CODlombo for the Sri Lanka match because of a back spasm.
Shreyas Iyer was supposed to be the fourth batsman in the Indian lineup and he looked in good touch against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 as well. He did not get the opportunity to bat against Nepal but he was a fixed name in the playing X1.
But 5 minutes prior to Men In Blues’ first Super 4 match, he suffered a back spasm. KL Rahul was roped in as the replacement and scored a sensational century. KL also played a gritty and fighting knock against Sri Lanka as well.
Iyer is Back With the Asia Cup 2023 Squad
While Iyer was improving, BCCI medical officials asked him to stay behind for recovery purposes. And that is why he did not travel to Colombo with the rest of the squad. He was dearly missed as the Indian team struggled against the Sri Lankan spin attack. And as we all know, the best player of the spin in this squad is definitely Shreyas Iyer.
But now, the medical personnel and doctors have given him the green light and he is completely recovered. He will join the team in Colombo ahead of their last Super 4 match soon. India has already qualified for the finals.
Place In Jeopardy?
While the former Delhi Capitals skipper will be back with the squad, his place in starting X1 is doubtful. Both Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul have sprung back in form and they can’t be left out of the team after some impressive outings.
It will be interesting to see what the future of Shreyas Iyer will hold in this squad as currently, his place is looking grim.
