Asian Games 2023: A fiery and historic knock by Shafali Verma was followed by an injury scare in a rather one-sided match. It looked like all the intensity and excitement of the match followed Shafali only.

She was in a ruthless form Thursday and was clearing the boundary line with ease no matter who the bowler was. A sensational half-century and brilliant partnerships with Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues put India in a comfortable position.

The half-century was followed by an injury scare that left everyone worried. After all, the Asian Games 2023 is the perfect opportunity for her to showcase her brutal hitting and if she is injured, India will miss her dearly.

Historic Knock At Asian Games 2023

Shafali Verma created history and became the first Indian to score a half-century in Asian Games history. She scored 67 runs in just 39 deliveries in a 15-over match. Jemimah Rodrigues was also close to a half-century but missed the feat by 3 runs.

Verma hit 4 boundaries and 5 sixes in her innings and was assisted by Malaysia’s poor fielding efforts as well. Verma and Rodrigues added 86 runs together in just 47 deliveries and put India in the driving seat.

Injury Scare For Shafali

The incident happened in the 13th over of the innings. Jemimah played an on-drive which hit Shafali on her right wrist. The opening batswoman was not able to move out of the trajectory on time.

She fell on the ground and the physio had to rush to the pitch to examine the injury. The injury was bandaged right away but Shafali was in pain. Which resulted in her getting out in the same over. We don’t know the intensity of the injury but we hope it’s nothing major.
