Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023: Steve Waugh Wanted Lyon To Stay With Aussie Camp Despite Injury; Find Out The Reason Here

Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023

Former Australian Captain Steve Waugh stated that he asked Nathan Lyon to stay at Aussie camp during Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023 despite injury.

Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023: Nathan Lyon has been an important part of the Australian team for a while now. He has been the spin front-runner for Aussies for more than a decade now. And just achieved the milestone of playing 100 consecutive test matches.

But disaster struck during the milestone match as he the right-arm spinner suffered a deadly calf injury and was ruled out of the series. And Australia missed him dearly in the third Ashes test.

England won the third test and it was visible that Todd Murphy was not able to do the same job as Lyon. Even the Ex-Australian captain and legend Steve Waugh also thinks the same as he urged the experienced spinner to stay in the camp even after the injury.

Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023: Wanted Him To Stay

In an interview with SENQ Breakfast, the former Australian skipper stated that he texted Lyon to persuade him to stay back at the camp. He also asked him about his injury and wished him all the best.

“I actually sent Nathan Lyon a message after he did his calf. I said, ‘Mate, don’t give up on it, you’ve got 18 days, you might be able to get back for the last Test match.” The former skipper stated.

Steve Waugh also accepted the fact that it is harder for bowlers as compared to batsmen. Even after being injured Lyon showed amazing grit and strength and played 13 deliveries while batting.

Back In Australia For Rehab

Nathan Lyon flew out of England back to Australia earlier this week. He will be rehabilitating in his city ahead of the domestic season. A team of specialist doctors is with him and he is on the right track.

He will be back before we know it and will be turning the batsmen around once again with his deliveries.
