The leading wicket-taker of Ashes 2023 did not disappoint and gave England an early breakthrough when he dismissed Usman Khawaja for just 3 runs. It was a long wait after that as Broad had to wait 45 overs for his next milestone wicket.
The milestone wicket came in the 50th over when Travis Head pulled a short ball directly into the hands of Joe Root on the fine leg. It was ecstatic as the medium pacer looked happy and like he had achieved everything.
Enters The List Of Great
With his 600th test wicket, he became only the second medium pacer to achieve this feat. Every bowler who has taken 600 wickets are spinner except James Anderson and now Stuart Broad.
He also became the English bowler with the most wickets against Australia surpassing Ian Botham. The Englishman also became the third-highest wicket-taker in Ashes behind Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.
The only sad thing about the achievement was that James Anderson was not present on the pitch when Broad achieved the milestone. The highest wicket-taker for England congratulated his bowling partner as soon as he entered the ground again.
