AUS vs SA: The Gabba ground hosted the first game of Australia and South Africa’s three-match Test series (AUS vs SA). The Australian side won the test match by six wickets, although it was over in under two days. However, something unusual was observed on the first day of the test match. Though, most of the records are made on the pitch, a new record has been made from the stands.

New record at the Gabba

The crowd made a record during the opening Test between South Africa. The first day (Saturday, December 17, 2022) of the first test between Australia and South Africa drew a record-breaking 29,306 spectators to the Brisbane venue, the Gabba, setting a new record for a non-Ashes match.

Before this Australia-South Africa match, 26,353 spectators attended Australia-Pakistan in 2016 for the Gabba’s highest-ever attendance for a non-Ashes test. In November 2006, the Ashes set a record with 39,315.

Australia takes 1-0 lead in the series

The first game of the series was played at the iconic Gabba ground. In the first innings,South Africa managed to score 152 runs with a lot of struggle. The hosts responded by scoring 218 runs and gained a lead of 66 runs. In the second innings, the South African batsmen played even worse, as they scored just 99 runs. Thus, Australia was given a target of just 34 runs. Eventually, the host nation won the match by six wickets.
