Australian Open 2023: Elana Ryabkina storms to quarterfinals for the first time, defats World No. 1 Swiatek by BIG margin

Australian Open 2023: A first-time quarterfinalist at the Australian Open, Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina defeated No. 1 Iga Swiatek in straight sets on Sunday. The 22nd-seeded Rybakina beat Swiatek 6-4, 6-4 in around 1 1/2 hours by using her powerful serving to shake up Swiatek in the Australian Open 2023. She also won in their baseline battles.

What did Ryabkinsa say after the match?

Star 23-year old Kazakhstan player Ryabkina later said that, “I played well in the important moments, Of course I’m nervous every time I go on the court, I think like everybody. But I’m calm, always. At least I’m trying not to show too much emotions. My coach says I actually need to show sometimes, so I’m also learning.”

Swiatek has won three major tournaments, including the French Open and the U.S. Open last year. The fact that Rybakina won the All England Club title in July without receiving any ranking points means that her current position of No. 25 does not accurately reflect her abilities or accomplishments.

Ryabkina emerged victorious through various tournaments

In 2022, when the All England Club prohibited players from Russia and Belarus from competing due to the invasion of Ukraine, the WTA and ATP tournaments withheld all points at Wimbledon. Rybakina, who will compete either Jelena Ostapenko or Coco Gauff for a spot in the semifinals, was born in Moscow but has represented Kazakhstan since that nation volunteered to pay for her tennis career in 2018.

Rybakina had earlier defeated 2022’s runner-up Danielle Collins in the third round. Swiatek had appeared to be in a very commanding position up until Sunday, winning every set she played and dropping a total of only 15 games throughout three matches.
