BCCI: A brand-new cricket stadium will be built in Varanasi, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who just announced their future plans. The project, which is being built in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), will have a INR 300 crore budget and will host international cricket matches. It is interesting that the new stadium will become Uttar Pradesh’s third cricket venue, joining those in Kanpur and Lucknow.

UP Govt. starts the process

The new stadium will be constructed in Ganjari village, located in the Rajatalab tehsil of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The state government has already identified and purchased a 31-acre land for the purpose, which will be handed over to the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by the end of this month. Officials have confirmed the news. BCCI’s honorary secretary Jay Shah and vice president Rajeev Shukla visited Varanasi earlier this week to discuss the plans.

UPCA Director Yudhvir Singh said, “The Uttar Pradesh government has identified around 31 acres of land in Ganjari village in Rajatalab tehsil (of Varanasi) for the construction of the international cricket stadium. It will be the third such stadium in the state after Green Park in Kanpur and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana stadium in Lucknow, where international matches will be played.”
