BCCI: New changes coming in Selection Committee again! Salil Ankola to leave due to Ajit Agarkar | Details

BCCI

BCCI: The BCCI senior men’s selection committee is set to experience a change as Salil Ankola, the West Zone selector and former India bowler, will depart from the current committee. Surprisingly, the reason for this change is chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

New changes in BCCI Selection committee

The BCCI made a decision to avoid having two selectors from the same zone, leading to the exit of Salil Ankola, the former India and Mumbai captain. Ajit Agarkar, who was appointed as the new chairman of the selection committee a few months ago, hails from the West Zone as well. Therefore, the BCCI has determined that it would be preferable not to extend Salil Ankola’s tenure as a senior selector once it expires.

The current selection committee members were initially appointed on one-year contracts by the BCCI, and they are required to reapply in December of this year. The current committee includes Ajit Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, S Sharath, and Salil Ankola. It has been revealed that the BCCI will seek approval from the board to solicit applications once their term expires during the annual general body meeting in Goa. Additionally, the board plans to present the selection committee with an updated compensation package at the same meeting.

BCCI AGM in Goa

The BCCI is scheduled to convene its 92nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 25. The previous BCCI AGM was conducted in Mumbai on October 18, 2022. This year’s AGM is taking place ahead of the highly anticipated ODI World Cup in India in 2023, and it is expected that the World Cup and its preparations will take center stage during the meeting.

Additionally, the appointment of the head coach for the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, a subject that has generated significant discussion, will be addressed, along with brief discussions regarding IPL 2024. The search for a new head coach and support staff for the Indian women’s team appears to have been postponed until the commencement of the country’s new domestic international season in December.
