Big BCCI Update: Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna Out of IPL 2024 Due to Injuries

Due to recent operations, fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna will not play in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), as declared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Big BCCI Update: Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna, two fast bowlers, will not participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024, the BCCI medical team announced on Tuesday, March 11. The pacers will not be available for the next T20 event, which begins on March 22, as they had surgery earlier in the year to treat their individual problems.

Shami’s Right Heel Surgery on February 26

On February 26, Mohammed Shami, who last competed for India at the World Cup, had surgery to correct an injury to his right heel. In the 2024 Indian Premier League, Shubman Gill‘s Gujara Titans will suffer a great loss without Shami. “He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” the BCCI said.

However, Prasidh Krishna, a standout for the Rajasthan Royals, had surgery on February 23 to repair his left proximal quadriceps tendon, and he would be absent from the next tournament for the reigning champions. “He (Prasidh) is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” the board said.

Rishabh Pant Cleared for Wicketkeeping Duty in IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant was also deemed eligible by the BCCI to handle wicketkeeping in the 2024 IPL. For the first time since his potentially fatal accident in December 2022, Pant will finally play competitive cricket again.

Notably, Mohammed Shami is anticipated to make a comeback during a home Test series against Bangladesh in September, according to BCCI secretary Jay Shah’s statement on Monday. Shami will also be absent from India’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, which begins on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

24 Wickets in 7 Matches in ODI World Cup

With 24 wickets in just 7 matches, Shami led India in ODI World Cup wicket-taking. During India’s journey to the final, when they were defeated by Australia, Shami handled the heel injury.
