Coach Rahul Dravid REVEALS future plans on Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma, star players to not feature in T20 World Cup 2024?

Virat Kohli Rohit Sharma

Virat Kohli – Rohit Sharma: Following India’s defeat in the T20 World Cup semifinal, there was already talk about weaning Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli off of the shortest format.

They were alerted when both seasoned players were left out of India’s T20I squad for the three-match series due to Rohit’s injury, and now head coach Rahul Dravid has hinted at building a young side in preparation for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.

What did Rahul Dravid say on Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma?

Even though Rohit and Kohli were not mentioned, Rahul Dravid was convinced that India had chosen to give T20Is top priority. As the 50-over World Cup draws near, the former India captain added that the seniors’ main attention will now be on the ODI format.

Indian cricket team coach, Rahul Dravid, said “For us, obviously, from the last semi-final (in the T20 World Cup) that we played against England, only 3-4 boys are playing in the XI (against Sri Lanka). We are slightly in a different stage of looking at the next cycle of T20, so ours is a slightly younger team and for us to play against the quality of Sri Lanka is a fantastic experience. The good thing is that a lot of focus is on the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship, so the T20s give us the opportunity to try out these guys.”

Only four players from the Indian team that lost to England in the World Cup semi-final last year—Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh—were included in the starting lineup against Sri Lanka on Thursday. Since the World Cup, Hardik Pandya has led India in two T20I series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

They are young players: Rahul Dravid

Although the selectors have not formally announced Hardik’s promotion, he is anticipated to continue serving as captain for the bulk of upcoming T20Is. Rahul Dravid said that the team management, fans, and everyone else must be understanding with this young squad since they are bound to have a bad game, like they did in the second T20I against Sri Lanka, losing by 16 runs.
