Cricket Viral Video: Mohammad Azharuddin, widely renowned for his graceful and stylish batting, was famous for his skilful wristwork and innovative shot choices. Nevertheless, on November 29, 1996, in a Test match against South Africa at the legendary Eden Gardens in Kolkata, he unveiled an entirely unexpected aspect of his cricketing career.

Azharuddin’s epic knock in Kolkata

As he began his innings, India found themselves in a dire situation, having lost 7 wickets for a mere 161 runs in response to South Africa’s formidable first innings total of 428. The team was teetering on the brink of a follow-on, and the tension in the crowd was visible.

However, Azharuddin had some other plans, he took to the crease and went on a relentless and fiery onslaught against the South African bowlers. Every ball that came his way was met with unrelenting aggression, as he scored boundaries from all corners of the ground.

Azharuddin’s aggression, particularly against debutant Lance Klusener, was exciting to witness as he scored five boundaries in his over. His partnership with Anil Kumble, adding 161 runs for the 8th wicket, was the match’s turning point. He scored the century off just 74 balls.

Azharuddin’s remarkable innings came to an end at 109 off a mere 79 balls, adorned with 18 fours and a six. He single-handedly rescued India from the edge of a crisis, pushing them to a respectable total of 329, thereby avoiding the follow-on.

Despite Azharuddin’s heroic efforts, South Africa emerged victorious with a significant 329-run margin, mainly due to Klusener’s outstanding bowling performance in the second innings. Nevertheless, Azharuddin’s innings will forever be etched in the memories of the Kolkata crowd.
