Lasith Malinga picks four wicket in four

At the start of the third over, New Zealand had a score of 15/0. Malinga however turned the match completely by picking up wickets of Colin Munro, Hamish Rutherford, Colin de Grandhomme, and Ross Taylor. After the over, the scorecard became 15/4 as he completely dismantled the top order.

During the third Twenty20 International against New Zealand, the 36-year-old Lasith Malinga achieved two historic milestones. In his quick 3-over spell, he not only made history by being the first bowler to record 100 wickets in T20Is,  he  also created history by being the first bowler in T20I cricket history to record two hat-tricks. In an April 2017 match in Colombo against Bangladesh, he recorded his maiden T20I hat trick.

In 2007, Lasith Malinga came close to taking five wickets in a row when he almost got Charl Langeveldt out with another yorker-length delivery on the very next ball. South Africa managed to survive that over and the next one before Robin Petersen hit a four off Malinga in the 49th over to secure victory for the Proteas. More than a decade later, Malinga repeated the feat during a T20I against New Zealand in 2019, but this time he achieved it at the start of the Kiwis’ innings. Despite chasing a target of 126, New Zealand was all out for just 88 as a result of Malinga’s bowling brilliance.
