Cricket Viral Video: During the opening day of the second Test match between England and New Zealand in 2022, a lighthearted incident occurred when a six hit by Daryl Mitchell caused a spectator's beverage to go airborne in an amusing manner.
In the 56th over of the New Zealand innings, Daryl Mitchell, in collaboration with Tom Blundell, was constructing a partnership that had the potential to alter the course of the game. With an aggressive approach, Mitchell advanced down the pitch to face Jack Leach, lofting the ball straight back down the ground. Upon reviewing the slow-motion replays, it became evident that the shot had taken an unsuspecting spectator by surprise, resulting in their drink being shattered. Matthew Potts, the fast bowler from the England team, signalled the incident as he went to retrieve the ball.
Although uncommon, the occurrence is not without precedent. In a Test match between England and New Zealand at Lord's in 2004, a similar incident took place when the ball landed in a spectator's pint glass. In a comical turn of events, Andrew Flintoff humorously licked the ball upon its return to the field. According to the Barmy Army, the New Zealand team kindly replaced the spectator's pint as a gesture of goodwill.
