Cricket Viral Video: There have been only a few instances when a batter has played so impact-fully that it ended a bowler's career forever. One such instance came during the 1996 ODI World Cup. Sanath Jayasuriya's 76-ball 79 in a 1996 World Cup game held in Delhi facilitated Sri Lanka to effortlessly chase down a target of 272 runs, subsequently putting an end to India's Manoj Prabhakar's international career.
Sachin's magnificent knock of 137 and Azhar's elegant strokeplay, which was filled with wristy flicks, helped India to amass a total of 271/3 in 50 overs, which was considered a winning score during those times.
In response, Sri Lanka got off to a flying start with Jayasuriya and Kaluwitharana attacking the Indian bowlers with ease, hitting boundaries all around the ground. Jayasuriya, in particular, was at his absolute best, playing his trademark square cuts and pulls with complete authority. Sanath Jayasuriya even reached to his fifty in 17 balls while the other batter Kaluwitharana was still at zero runs in 11 balls.
He displayed sheer brutality against senior Indian paceman Manoj Prabhakar, forcing Azhar to curtail his first spell to just two overs due to the ferocity of the attack. Even in his return spell, Sri Lanka managed to score more than 20 runs off his two overs. Consequently, Prabhakar's bowling figures for the match ended at 47 runs conceded without any wicket in just four overs. Before this match, he had played 129 ODIs for country in 12 year long career but this match turned out to be his last.
Sri Lanka won the match by six wickets and eight balls remaining. After the match, Manoj was dropped from the team and he also opted for retirement very soon. The match turned out to be his last match for India.
