Cricket Viral Video: In the second of three Tests against Australia in 1998, Sourav Ganguly led the attack for India at Eden Gardens. India had a 1-0 lead and Ganguly was given the new ball by captain Mohammad Azharuddin. Ganguly, who was primarily a batsman, made a remarkable contribution to India’s victory in that match with both bat and ball.
Sourav Ganguly wreaks havoc with ball
Ganguly nearly had the wicket of opener Mark Taylor off his second delivery, but the umpire called it a no-ball. After Javagal Srinath had taken three wickets, Ganguly finally got the scalp of Taylor, forcing the Australian skipper to nick a wide one through to the keeper. Ganguly beat Taylor’s edge on numerous occasions and celebrated his success by sprinting towards the slip cordon.
Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting rebuilt Australia’s innings, but Ganguly cleaned up their tail. He finished with personal, career-best figures of 3-28 off 13.4 overs, including five maidens. After tempting Michael Kasprowicz with several fuller deliveries, Ganguly bowled a vicious bouncer, which the Australian bowler helplessly prodded to Azharuddin. Two overs later, Ganguly trapped Gavin Robertson plumb lbw to leave Australia all out for 233.
