Cricket Viral Video: The Jonny Bairstow controversial runout in the second Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023 second test will remain a hot topic for a while now. Both teams have commented on the incident and the views are completely opposite.
The Prime Minister of each country has commented on the incident and once again the views are completely different. The media are taking shots at both teams with the Australian newspaper calling Ben Stokes a crybaby.
England coach Brendon McCullum stated that he won’t have a beer with an Aussie after the incident. And on the same day, a video of him in his playing days resurfaced. A video that completely contrasts the 'Spirit Of Cricket.'
The Cricket Viral Video showcases a match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Lancaster Park in Christchurch in late 2006. In the video, Brendon McCullum runs out Muttiah Murlidharan in a very controversial manner.
Kumar Sangakkara was playing an amazing knock in the final inning. He was on 99 and played a shot for a single to complete his century. Murlidharan completed the run while the ball was still in the air. He did not wait for the ball to be collected by keeper McCullum and left the crease to congratulate Sangakkara.
McCullum took the advantage and run out of Murlidharan. Once again, it was within the rules but the spirit of the game was in question. New Zealand won the match with that runout. The runout created a bad feeling and controversy.
10 years later, during his MCC Spirit of Cricket lecture at Lords', McCullum apologized for his action. He stated that he considers Sangakkara his friend and if he could turn back time and change it, he would have.
“If I could turn back time, I would. We were within the laws of the game but not the spirit and there is a very important difference which is glaringly obvious to me years later, and it’s that aspect that I want to focus on a little more this evening." The former New Zealand batsman added.
