CSK vs KKR IPL 2023: In the 33rd match of IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by a whooping margin of 49 runs. The match took place at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Nitish Rana had won the toss and opted to field first but couldn’t stop the batting onslaught by visitors as CSK posted a mammoth total of 235/4 in 20 overs. In response, KKR could score just 186/8 in 20 overs, suffering a 49-run victory. This is the third consecutive victory for CSK while a fourth consecutive defeat for KKR.

KKR batters fail in big chase

Coming to chase a massive target of 236 runs, the home team did not have an ideal start. Jason Roy couldn’t come to open the innings after suffering an injury while fielding. They gambled by sending Sunil Narine as an opener but he was dismissed on a duck on just the third ball. N Jagadeesan was also dismissed soon at a score of 1 run in 3 balls.

Star batter Venkatesh Iyer also failed today and could score just 20 runs in as many balls. After the powerplay, they had a score of 38/2. Skipper Nitish Rana was also dismissed for a score of 27 runs in 20 balls. Jason Roy finally came to the crease and showed amazing resistance to CSK’s dominance. He scored 61 runs in 26 balls, hitting five boundaries and as many sixes. Andre Russell scored 9 off 6 balls. Rinku Singh played a crucial knock of 53* in 33 balls but failed to get his team a victory. Tushar Depsande and Maheesh grabbed a couple of wickets while Akash, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Pathirana all picked a wicket each in their spell.

CSK posts a mammoth total

Earlier, Nitish Rana won the toss and chose to field first in the clash. However, his decision backfired severely as CSK batters easily got through the attack and posted a total of 235/4 in 20 overs. During the powerplay, they made 59 runs without losing any wickets. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 35 runs off 20 balls while Devon Conway scored his fourth consecutive fifty and was dismissed at a score of 56 runs off 40 balls.

However, from thereon, Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane took on charge. Shivam Dube showed sublime form and slammed 50 runs in 21 balls, hitting two boundaries and five sixes. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane showed up his new avatar again and slammed 71* in 29 balls, hitting six boundaries and five maximums, playing at a strike rate of 244.83. Ravindra Jadeja played a brief cameo of 18 runs in 8 balls whereas MS Dhoni who came to bat in the last over scored 2* runs in three balls. Khejroliya grabbed a couple of wickets while Chakravarthy and Suyash Sharma grabbed a wicket each as well.
