DC vs SRH IPL 2023: Just five days ago, David Warner was seen in a joyful and exuberant celebration after a triumphant return to Hyderabad, leading his new team to a seven-run victory over his former side, Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, the Australian cricketer's mood wasn't as cheerful on Saturday night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi when Delhi Capitals faced Sunrisers Hyderabad once again. Warner's disappointment intensified as he was dismissed without scoring a run, facing only two balls. Adding to his dismay, DC head coach Ricky Ponting gave him a cold stare in response to his dismissal.
In a departure from the trend seen in IPL 2023, the team chasing has enjoyed an advantage in Delhi. However, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) achieved a notable feat by posting a total of 197 runs, which is the highest score that a team batting first has achieved at the venue. This remarkable achievement was made possible by two impressive innings. Youngster Abhishek Sharma conveyed a strong message to the SRH management as he showcased his preference for opening the innings and scored a quickfire 67 off just 36 balls. Heinrich Klaasen then provided the finishing touches to the innings with his 27-ball 53, ensuring that SRH reached a formidable total of 197 for six in their allotted 20 overs.
Warner had intentions of providing Delhi with a strong start in their home ground, but his plans were ended by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who dismissed him on just the second ball of the innings. Bhuvneshwar skillfully kept the ball outside the off-stump, hoping to induce an error from Warner. As the Australian batsman swung forcefully to pull the length ball through the leg side, he unintentionally chopped it onto the stumps with an inside edge. Warner's innings came to an abrupt end with a two-ball duck, leaving captain Ricky Ponting visibly frustrated as he directed a stern gaze towards him.
