ICC ODI World Cup 2023: In the 2023 ODI World Cup match between England and Afghanistan at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, October 15, England’s standout player Joe Root made a remarkable diving catch to send Rashid Khan back to the pavilion. Despite Rashid‘s dangerous form, Root’s exceptional reflexes and agility led to a stunning catch right on the boundary rope, ending Rashid’s innings.

Joe Root pulls off a stunner

This was a pivotal moment during the death overs of the first innings, as the catch resulted in the dismissal of the formidable Rashid Khan, known for his aggressive batting in the slog overs in both international and franchise cricket. Rashid was building his innings steadily, positioning himself for a strong finish.

However, in the 45th over, he attempted a lofted shot towards long-on against fellow leg-spinner Adil Rashid, but regrettably, the 25-year-old couldn’t generate sufficient power or elevation in his shot. Joe Root reacted swiftly, moving to his right, and executed a spectacular sliding catch. Rashid Khan was dismissed after contributing 23 runs from 22 balls, with this wicket being the third taken by Adil Rashid in the match.
