Delhi Police assures Supreme Court of filing FIR if ordered in Wrestlers’ sexual harassment case

Supreme Court: On Wednesday, Delhi police said that if the Supreme Court decides that a FIR must be filed immediately, they will do so. The police told the Supreme Court that a preliminary investigation was required before filing a FIR on sexual harassment charges against female wrestlers. The Supreme Court stated that the Delhi police may provide their views on April 28 when the court hears the wrestlers’ petition. The Supreme Court decided on Tuesday to hear a petition filed by seven wrestlers seeking the registration of a FIR against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh.

Supreme Court also issued a notice to the Delhi Police over the plea submitted by seven wrestlers

The matter was scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court on Friday, April 28. According to ANI, the court highlighted that the petition by Wrestlers who have represented India contains serious allegations. The Supreme Court also issued a notice to the Delhi Police over the plea submitted by seven wrestlers. Earlier in the day, ex-Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and other leaders joined protesting wrestlers at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. This comes after Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia stated on Monday that the wrestlers welcome any political party that wishes to join their cause. Notably, wrestlers previously rejected the involvement of political parties in their agitation, but they have recently reversed their position. The athletes are requesting that the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh be charged with sexually harassing certain female wrestlers, among other things.
