ENG VS SL ICC ODI World Cup 2023: England is in deep trouble now. It is a do-or-die fixture for Sri Lanka and England as a loss will knock these teams out of the tournament. And by the looks of it, the English side is on the verge of being knocked out.

Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan gave England a decent start but they were not able to capitalize on that even a little bit. It was the Sri Lankan bowler’s amazing performance that England found themselves in this deep trouble.

The defending champions registered their lowest total against Sri Lanka in a World Cup match. None of the Lankan bowlers shined individually, but a complete team performance made them invincible.

Sensational Bowling Performance

Kasun Rajhita and Angelo Mathews started the charge for Sri Lanka and sent both the openers back to the pavilion after a decent start. Mathews is playing his first ODI match after five months and was called to replace injured Patheerana.

Lahiru Kumara picked up from there and broke the middle order of England. He sent Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone back to the pavilion. Ben Stokes was even looking dangerous and was nearing his century.

Maheesh Theekshana was the real star of the match. Even though he was able to take only 1 wicket, he bowled 8.2 overs and had an economy of just 2.52. He put unreal pressure on English batting resulting in them playing loose shots.

ENG VS SL ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Amazing Fielding

The fielding by the Sri Lankan team was also brilliant. Angelo Matthews ran Joe Root out after a sensational throw. Kusal Mendis showed amazing mind presence and sent Adil Rashid back to the pavilion in a dismissal similar to Ashes 2023.
