Qatar rules seems to have irked fans

Even though same-sex partnerships are illegal in Qatar, both Qatar and FIFA President Gianni Infantino have emphasized that everyone will be welcomed there. Additionally, civil partnerships are also not acknowledged in the Gulf state.

However, Qatar has emphasised that visitors to the World Cup should respect the customs of the host nation. Some spectators said that they were barred from entering any World Cup stadium with items that were rainbow-colored.

Since the beginning of the competition, Qatar has been the subject of debate. The use of alcoholic drinks and the OneLove armbands that the captains of several countries, including Germany, planned to wear as a statement of support for LGBTQ rights, were both outlawed in the stadiums.
