Moukoko becomes youngest German player in WC

Last Wednesday against Oman, Youssoufa Moukoko got his senior debut for the German national team. The Borussia Dortmund striker made history by becoming the country’s youngest representative since Uwe Seeler in 1954 at the age of 17 years and 361 days. Additionally, Moukoko became the fourth-youngest player to ever represent Germany.

Moukoko, a Yaoundé, Cameroon native, debuted for the German national U16 team on September 11, 2017. He scored twice for the Germans in his second game against the same opponent two days later. He was the U16s’ youngest player at the time.

Germany needs to win their all remaining games

With just 14 Bundesliga appearances, Moukoko had a season to remember for Borussia Dortmund, tallying six goals and four assists. He was selected for the Germany team to compete in the 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks to his performances for Dortmund.

In the “Group of Death,” which also includes teams like Spain and Costa Rica, Manuel Neuer captained Germany. Germany must win its final two games to advance to the next stage; else, they will have to wait for other teams in their group to have favourable outcomes.
